Why Google and other search engines hates link buying and link selling farms..

Hopefully by now you know that search engine optimisation is important as this is what gets you into the natural results on the major search engines. You should also know why you want to be in those natural results – because between 60-70% of search engine users favour the natural results over the sponsored links. People are not completely illogical – they know that if you have paid for your site to be ranked at the top, it is because it’s not good enough to get there on its own merits.

Well it is this same theory which leads Google to disregard websites which have bought links to other sites to increase their appeared connectivity to authority sites within their industry. One way links, back links and reciprocal links are some of the things which search engines use to rate the relevance and quality of websites they display in their search results.

Therefore, like the search engine users, the search engines themselves don’t want to be duped by companies which have paid to appear to have a better quality website than they really do. Also, in the course of buying and selling links, poor quality links are often created. This doesn’t mean that the links don’t connect, it means that the links being made are not relevant to the website, and there is no clear reason why these sites – which have paid to be linked – would be linked at all, as they are from different industries or areas of knowledge.

So while this is why Google and the other major search engines hate paid links, and when they are used incorrectly, search engines are entitled to unleash their wrath. However, link buying can be beneficial if done properly. For example, make sure you only buy into links which are related to your website, your business and your industry. Also when buying you can choose which specific pages of a linked website your site links to and this can again increase the relevance of your bought links.
