Google is pushing the boundaries of search engines..

In an attempt to significantly improve the capabilities of the world’s leading search engine, Google has been inviting users to contribute their feedback on a new system they’ve created, The Caffeine Search Infrastructure.

The improved process aims to do exactly what the current system does i.e. find the best and most relevant results in the shortest time possible, only it wants to do it better. For the last few months an army of Googlers the world over have been involved in testing the secret project which will “push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions.” It is anticipated that Google will have created new innovative ways of crawling the net and of determining the authenticity and reputation of a site.

The differences won’t be obvious to ordinary users as the changes are hidden, however many web developers and power searchers are likely to pick up on the alterations. Those who do note a change are encouraged to get in touch with Google to discuss their experience and help the new system develop and iron out any blips.

Caffeine Search Infrastructure is still in the developmental stage which means that all users have the opportunity to voice their opinions over the workings of Google and help the shape of future search engine systems. The areas which Google bosses are most interested in receiving feedback on are; sites which rank better or worse as compared to the old and new system, and whether the results list included sites which were irrelevant to the search topic.

With the recent launch of Microsoft’s rival search engine, Bing, it seems Google is upping its game in an attempt to stay one step ahead and retain its position as the market leader.
